Lumonyx is a translucent molded stone with an alabaster look available in a variety of soft colors of quarried alabasters, from pure whites to creams and golden.

A limitless variety of molded shapes including columns, domes and curves are all available in Lumonyx alabaster. Spheres, sculpted shapes, illuminated signage, wave walls, water walls and bar tops, custom lighted elements are all able to be produced.

- Answer: Onyx is a cryptocrystalline form of quartz. The term onyx is also used for many varieties of banded calcite. The Minoans, ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans used onyx stone. Onyx has been used for centuries for jewelry and carvings as well as lighting.

- Answer: Shipping choices vary depending on the size of your order. Lumonyx is packed in crates and delivered directly to your site. Production and shipping time vary depending on the size and complexity of your order. Most orders leave the factory within 12 weeks.

- Question: Will Lumonyx stain?
- Answer: With the proper installation and care, Lumonyx can be kept clean and stain free relatively easily.
- Question: Does Lumonyx scratch?
- Answer: Lumonyx is highly durable and stronger than traditional onyx or alabaster. If the surface is acquires any scratching over time, it can be gently sanded with a fine-grade sandpaper to restore the original finish.
- Question: Do I need special cleaners for Lumonyx?
- Answer: Lumonyx can be cleaned with water and liquid dish soap. You should never use abrasives or harsh chemicals.

- Question: How do I work with Lumonyx?
- Answer: Skilled carpenters, tile setters and glaziers can easily work with our products using basic carpentry tools.
- Question: Can I cut Lumonyx?
- Answer: Yes, Lumonyx is a highly workable product and can be cut and installed with basic carpentry tools.
- Question: What supports will I need?
- Answer: Supports for Lumonyx backlit stone vary. The possibilities of shadows need to be considered and we can help you with that. Since Lumonyx is lighter, thinner and stronger than traditional onyx it is much easier to support. Many of the supports used with glass and acrylic also work with Lumonyx. These include standoffs, cable systems, rod systems and frames.
- Question: How will I know how to assemble my architectural elements?
- Answer: Our in house drafting team will work with you to insure that you not only get exactly what you envisioned, but also know how to put it together. Skilled carpenters, tile setters, and glaziers can easily install Lumonyx products using basic carpentry tools.
- Question: What is the maximum size sheet I can get?
- Answer: Alabaster panels are available in a variety of sizes, and are made to order up to 4' by 12'.

Backlit Bar tops and Fronts with Lumonyx
- Question: What is the correct height for an illuminated onyx or alabaster stone bar top?
- Answer: The most common height for a bar top is 42" but may be as high as 45". This applies to any bar top whether a backlit bar top or a more conventional type. The 42" bar height seems to work best for either seated patrons or standing ones. It also allows the bar tender a comfortable working height.
- Question: How much light is needed to under light a bar top?
- Answer: How much light is needed to back light a bar top depends upon the look you want to achieve. There are various options for lighting a bar including LED, Florescent, compact florescent, etc. At Lumonyx, for most resin infused onyx or alabaster bars we use special LED lights that fit within a relatively thin area, last for years and use very little electricity.
- Question: Can I install a back lit onyx or alabaster top over an existing bar?
- Answer: Yes. With its light weight and ease of fabrication an existing bar can be made into an illuminated stone bar.
- Question: What is the standard depth of an illuminated bar top?
- Answer: A Lumonyx back lit bar top can be any width you want. A typical bar top is around 18 to 24 inches deep (width front to back). If there is a lower back bar, where the bartender works, it is usually 22 to 26 inches deep.
- Question: Can I have the bar face illuminated all the way to the floor?
- Answer: The answer depends upon the look you want. Unlike bar tops or faces made from un-reinforced onyx or alabaster, with Lumonyx the bar face and top can be completely illuminated. Keep in mind that most bars have a foot rest 7 to 9 inches above the floor that protrudes 7 to 9 inches away from the bar. This footrest is typically not back lit.
